Stu Dybek is the author of six works of fiction and two poetry collections. He has published in The New Yorker, Harper’s, Paris Review, The Atlantic Monthly, and many other journals and magazines. His awards include a Lannan Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, Whiting Writers’ Award, a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, and one of the prestigious “genius” awards from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
Critics and other fiction writers consider him one of the masters of the short story. “[His] work “move[s] easily between the gritty reality of urban decay,” writes John Breslin in the Washington Post, “and a magical realm of lyricism and transcendence linked to music, art and religion.”
Dybek is currently “Distinguished Writer-in-Residence” at Northwestern University.
